چکیده

The paper investigates adaptive equalization of timedispersive mobile ratio fading channels and develops a robust high performance Bayesian decision feedback equalizer (DFE). The characteristics and implementation aspects of this Bayesian DFE are analyzed, and its performance is compared with those of the conventional symbol or fractional spaced DFE and the maximum likelihood sequence estimator (MLSE). In terms of computational complexity, the adaptive Bayesian DFE is slightly more complex than the conventional DFE but is much simpler than the adaptive MLSE. In terms of error rate in symbol detection, the adaptive Bayesian DFE outperforms the conventional DFE dramatically. Moreover, for severely fading multipath channels, the adaptive MLSE exhibits significant degradation from the theoretical optimal performance and becomes inferior to the adaptive Bayesian DFE.

A wide-band radial basis function decision feedback equalizer-assisted burst-by-burst adaptive modem

The performance of radial basis function-based decision feedback equalized (RBF DFE) burst-by-burst adaptive quadrature amplitude modulation (AQAM) is presented for transmissions over dispersive wide-band mobile channels. This scheme is shown to give a significant improvement in terms of the mean bit error rate (BER) and bits per symbol (BPS) performance compared to that of the individual fixed...

On the Practical Aspects of Joint Passive Phase Conjugation and Equalization Underwater Communication Systems

Underwater acoustic communication systems suffer from the channel impairments which results in time spreading of the transmitted signal. In underwater environment, multiple replicas of the transmitted signal are received at the receiver through different paths, which causes significant Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI). Decision Feedback Equalizers (DFE) was utilized to overcome this type of inte...

On the Design of Robust Orthogonal Adaptive Decision Feedback Equalizers for Uncertain Dispersive Channels

This paper presents the theoretical aspects of a methodology for the design of robust orthogonal adaptive decision feedback equalizers. The dispersive transmission channel is assumed to have a transfer function type of description with small uncertainties in the parameters. A decision feedback equalizer is designed minimizing a mean square error objective function that takes into account the un...

Performance of Decision Feedback Equalizers in Urban and Indoor Mobile Channels

This paper presents idealized computer simulation results of an equalizer using two-ray and measurement-based channel Impulse response models. A decision feedback equalizer (DFE) with a recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm is used as the equalization scheme. The results show that adaptive equalization can significantly Improve the bit-error-rate (BER) of a mobile system if the channel does n...

An Introduction to ANFIS Based Channel Equalizers for Mobile Cellular Channels

The purpose of a communication system is to transfer information between two separate points over some medium in the presence of disturbances or distortions such as noise and dispersion. This distortion is manifested in the time domain as pulse dispersion and is labeled as Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI). As data rates increase in modern digital communication systems, ISI becomes an inevitable ...
